These groups meet via Zoom. We encourage creative expression about personally meaningful topics combined with wellness education and group sharing. Each month, a new topic and a project will be posted here.
Group participants can work through the project prompts and create a visual or written response using any materials available at home. Project responses can range anywhere from painting, drawing, collage, digital art, photography, mixed media, poetry, or spoken word. There is no wrong way!
All registered participants will get a Zoom link sent to their email 1 hour before the session starts. (Please check spam if you are registered and do not see the link)
These groups are free and open to mature teens and adults.
Saturday August 29th, 10-11am on Zoom
Summer schedules have been busy and we are excited to resume meeting again! This month we will use poetry to inspire reflection and artistic inspiration. Poetry is a wonderful medium to express about meaningful and universal life experiences.
Our creative project for this month is based on this beautiful poem by Kahlil Gibran:
The River Cannot Go Back
The River cannot go back
It is said that before entering the sea
A river trembles with fear.
She looks back at the path she has traveled
from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.
And in front of her,
she sees an ocean so vast,
that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.
But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.
Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.
The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear,
because that’s where the river will know
It’s not about disappearing into the ocean
But of becoming the ocean.
-- Kahlil Gibran
Creative Task: Take time to study this poem. What does it bring up in you? When have you faced something that changed you in a way you were no longer the same? What is taking a risk like for you? Where have you already traveled, endured, or overcome that you feel proud of?
Journal about what comes up for you related to this poem and then use your reflections to inspire a visual response. What image does this conjure up for you? Create art with any medium you choose. There is no wrong way!
